Access information for Staveley   House

Introduction

Our property is a detached house with attached self-contained apartment situated on the outskirts of the quiet and conveniently located village of Staveley situated within the National park. The village has many amenities and is midway between Kendal & Windermere at the entrance to the Kentmere Valley.

The village is well serviced by train ( train stops at Staveley, 750 yds from House) and buses nearest stop approx. 500yds.

Pre-Arrival

Arrival & Car parking facilities

* Although on a main road, there is very low levels of passing traffic & is relatively quiet. There is street parking outside, enough for several cars. There are NO parking restrictions.

* Through the double wrought iron gate into the driveway there is enough room for 4 small/medium cars. 1 park in front of the side gate  for the apartment  and the remainder for the house.

* The driveway is level, hard packed and covered in gravel.

* There is no discernable step up to the front door, which opens outwards.

* As you enter the vestibule there is a step down, and on the wall on the right are 2 light switches. 1 lights the vestibule, the other the outside lights when in the correct position work on motion sensor.

* Straight ahead is the vestibule doors, which open outwards. Immediately  ahead is a pillar. On the left hand side of the pillar is a box inside are the light switches for the lounge/fireplace and dining areas. Each light switched is  tagged.

* Past the pillar on the far wall, to the left of the spiral staircase are the light switches for the kitchen, which is on the left.

* To the left of the fireplace is the spiral staircase to the landing & bedrooms.

* At the bottom of the stairs on the wall to the right is the light switch for the stairs.

* At the top of the stairs is a door which opens away from you.

* On the landing on the left are 2 light switches, 1 for the stairs, 1 for the  landing.

* To the right is the family bathroom, ahead the 2 main bedrooms, and stairs to bedrooms 3 & 4.

* There is a 3 way light switch on the wall opposite the bottom of the stairs, which light the landing and  stairs.

Please note

All light switches are at the normal height (approx 4’ from the floor) and are in a position to the left or right of a door or opening.

* The key to the door is in the coded safety box - details of location and code will be sent to you by Cumbrian Cottages prior to the start of your holiday.

General Information

The gas boiler provides heating and hot water “ON DEMAND”

Room temperature is controlled by increasing or decreasing the individual radiator control valves.

The outside area and outhouse are shared between the occupants of the  House & Apartment

Fire alarms fitted & fire extinguishers are wall mounted on each floor.

Wind-up torches are provided.

Vestibule

Inside the vestibule to the left is a door which leads to:

  • Separate toilet
  • Washbasin
  • Drying area for clothes & boots
  • Hanging space for coats
  • Doggy shower

Bedroom 3 & 4 ( identical)  Second floor  Winster & Rydal

*  Two  3’ x 6’6” twin beds, can be zipped together to make a King size double (this must be requested at the time of booking)

*  Entry to rooms is by 2 steps up and 2 steps down.

Outhouse ( facilities shared between Apartment & House )

* Accessed  through door at side of the house.

* Contains washing machine & condenser tumble drier

Grounds and Gardens

Front & side area are laid out in gravel mature trees & bushes in scattered positions

Rear access is through a wrought iron gate to the side, which also accesses the outhouse.

South facing rear garden is laid out with small grassed area, mature trees and bushes and two tiered patio area.

Small patio area has small metal table & 2 metal chairs for the apartment and a small metal bench.

Larger patio area has wooden table, 4 wooden chairs and small wooden bench for the house.

Additional Information

We have produced an information folder on the amenities available in the immediate local area and the Lakes area in general.

We have also given information on what to do & where to go and given our views on various places to eat and visit. We don’t all like the same things, but hope you find it useful.

There is no telephone  line in the house.

The best reception for a mobile phone is with ORANGE. (There is an Orange mast in the village)

Nearest public telephone box is approx 500yds away towards the village

The House is NO SMOKING throughout, although there is cover outside. ALL used cigarette buts must be taken away and disposed of away from the house.

Dogs are welcome, but not allowed on the landing, in bedrooms, on the chairs or sofas.

As the house is let to people who do not have dogs, if there is evidence of dogs being allowed into bedrooms then ALL bedrooms will have to be professionally cleaned and the cost will be deducted from the deposit.
